Bookmarks come 6 per page. They can be printed on card sock paper and then cut to size or regular paper and laminated for more durability. If you have a large number of students to give the bookmarks to you may wish to print the bookmarks using a laser printer, making a master copy. Then photocopy them. Many photocopy machines take card stock paper. Make sure your printer is sent on portrait orientation.
(new ones on their way)
Designs are being reworked in pdf.
Q: Who can participate in this program?
A: Islamic schools, Muslim homeschools, masjids, week-end/Sunday schools, and/or parents who have children in non-Muslim private or public school.
One of the nice things about this reading program is that schools, weekend schools, masjids, homeschoolers, or parents can tailor it to their own needs. You or your school can, also decide to give extra points for reading books or Surahs in Arabic, even Muslim books could qualify.
Once it has been decided to participate in the program please print out posters and Reading Records. The posters should go up around the school or masjids and in classrooms. Parents may want to put a poster on the refrigerator door. For larger sizes take poster to a copying store and ask them to blow it up (at some places you can do this yourself). For added encouragement you may want to print out an hand out the bookmarks.
If the school or parents have decided to reward the amount of books read then the award rate (i.e. a button for reading 5 -11 books, a gift certificate for reading 22 books, a pizza party for reading 55 books, etc.) should be decided and made clear to kids. Also schools, masjids, and weekend/Sunday schools should decide on the record turn in date.
Put all this information (explain the program, why reading is important, award rate, double points for Arabic books and Surahs etc. and turn in date) a flyer that you send home along with the Reading Record. A suggested reading list should also go home in this package. In this package you may also want to point out that children can participate in the IQRA Summer Reading Program and the summer reading program many local libraries have.
Masjids might want to have a reading party for children who attend public, charter, non-Muslim private or who are homeschooled. Make sure you also give the Reading Record turn in date -- it can be written in on the posters.
Does your school, masjid, weekend school, homeschool, or family have a website? Tell prospective students and parents, and current students and parents, other homeschoolers, everyone that you are serious about reading. Put an IQRA banner on your website.
Once you do you may also want to add Reading Record turn in dates and award rates just as a reminder to those in your community visiting your web page.
The Read-to-Me Summer Reading Program is for the pre-reader (Pre-school and Kindergarten). Awards and parties should recognize both the pre-reader and the parent as the contributions of reading to a child is immeasurable. Just as in the IQRA Summer Reading Program, decide on a record turn in date and hand out packets with the same information and suggested reading list.
Does your school have a website? Tell prospective students and parents, and current students and parents that your school is serious about reading. Put an IQRA banner on your website. Cut and paste on your web page the following code (inside the box) Homeschoolers, masjids and weekend schools that have web pages are encouraged to do this too.
