You will need:
|
1. Pick out the template you are going to use. Each template has a different front and back, except for the "Simple Eid Mubarak", which may be easier for younger children who want to use the glitter pens.
Templates that have gray wording are meant to be used with colored glitter glue and glitter paint.
Templates that have wording in either black or colors can either stand as is OR the background can be colored in (suggestions for that below) For preschool children or to speed up the project you may want to print black or colored templates on a colored computer/copy paper like yellow, bright green or light blue. ALL can be used with the Clear Glue Pens/Shimmer 'n Shine/Stickles
Cover table with newspapers before beginning.

Each of the above has "Eid Mubarak" (Eid Blessings) on one side and "Kul amm WA antum BI khair" (May every year find you in good health) on the other, in Arabic calligraphy. It is your option to use each side as presented or make the medallion with only Eid Mubarak or only the best wishes. |
These templates all say "Eid Mubarak" in simple Arabic script. You may want to mix and match the colors, such as one side have red wording and the other side blue wording, etc. |
2. After choosing your template cut it out along the gray oval line.
3. Choosing one side lay it on the poster board/cereal box/paper plate face down and draw the outline of the oval on the poster board/cereal box/paper plate.
4. Now cut out the poster board/cereal box/paper plate oval and place it aside.
5. Decorate your paper ovals that you cut out in step 2.
If you've chosen colored paper as the back ground you needn't color in the background.. but you may want to use the clear Glue Pens/Shimmer 'n Shine/Stickles.

OLDER STUDENTS Using the gray wording as a guide draw in the with the glitter pens or glitter glue Let dry. Do this to both sides of your medallion After drying you may choose to continue decorating as if you were using black or colored wording. Using the "palette and paint brush" approach may also be helpful. If you've used the colored glitter glue to highlight the letters skip step 6. |
Using your markers, crayons, or colored pencils fill in the background of the medallion. One technique in art is to make all your strokes with a crayon, colored pencil or even a marker go all the same way. So if you begin with your strokes/marks of your crayon going up and down continue that way throughout coloring the background. If you started your background with slanted strokes continue that way throughout the background. Try to make the stroke at same degree of slant that you started with. Little children like to color very darkly remind them to use light stroke with crayons or color pencils as they color over the Arabic. If using markers let stand to dry. Do this to both sides of your medallion. Go on to step 6.
|
7. After medallion sides have dried glue them to the poster board/cereal box/paper plate oval you cut out in step 4. Try to fit both sides exactly on the poster board/cereal box/paper plate oval.
IMPORTANT: Make sure both sides of medallion are on the same way. When hanging both the front and the back must be coordinated so the top of one side is also the top of the other side when turned. You don't want to be looking at the medallion as it's hanging from an arch and have a breeze turn it only to find the other side upside down!.<smile>

8. When dry take you hole punch. The first two holes punched should be directly at the top and directly at the bottom of the oval. Make sure when punching out holes that the bottom of the hole is on the oval and not riding the edge. Now with trying to evenly space holes, punch out holes on both sides by the edge of the medallion. 9. Cut a long piece of yarn (about half a yard in length). Tie one side to the bottom hole and going around the oval thread the yarn in and out of the holes. You should reach the bottom hole with plenty of yarn to tie off the end. If you want to or are adding gold yarn, gold ribbon, etc. cut a piece and tie off at the top hole. Now go the opposite way around the oval than what you did with the yarn. Tie off at end. 10. Take another piece of yarn, about 5 inches and tie a loop at the top of the oval. This will provide a way to hang the medallion. |

If you want to make the bottom tassel.
11 Cut a piece of yarn about 5 inches long and set aside.
12. Now take your index card and begin loosely winding your yarn around a side. If you wind it around the short way you will have a small tassel. If you wind it around the long way you will have a long tassel.

13. After you have wound the yarn around the card several times cut the bottom section. (Hint the more times around the card with your yarn the thicker your tassel will be).

14. Carefully slide the yarn off the card. When removing the yarn from the card be careful not to disturb the "fold" your yarn made when it went around the card.
15. Take the piece of yarn you cut in step 10 and tie it tightly around your bundle. Tie it below the "fold" in your yarn.
16. After you tie your yarn bundle off you have made a tassel. With the loose ends of the yarn you cut in step 10 tie your tassel to the bottom hole in the medallion.
Palette and Paint Brush Approach
To use glitter pens we recommend placing a puddle of glitter glue on another sheet of paper and then will the tip of the glitter pen, a fine paint brush, pencil tip etc. dip into the puddle then "draw" the glitter on the project. (If you are using clear glitter glue pens or Stickles then you can use the applicator tip of the pen/bottle to draw through the glitter glue.) Or use clear glitter as instructed above.
