Homeschooling Cheaply

Homeschooling cheaply is possible!

Use your library for enrichment books, philosophy, texts and even book preview before you decide to buy. Also learn about and use "interlibrary loan" -- this allows libraries to order books from other libraries in the United States.*
Two book "how tos" are recommended below.

Your homeschool support or state group may have a resource center for you to use. Also there are many resources, unit studies and educational sites (with lesson plans) on the world wide web.

Another way to homeschool cheaply is to buy, sell, swap, trade and freecycle used, children too old or "didn't work for us" material. Many state and local homeschool groups have used book fairs also.

On-Line:

Books:

Homeschooling on a Shoestring:
A Jam-Packed Guide

by Melissa L. Morgan, Judith Waite Allee

Homeschool Your Child for Free:
More Than 1,200 Smart, Effective, and Practical Resources for Home Education on the Internet and Beyond

by LauraMaery Gold, Joan M. Zielinski

*=Even though benign, some homeschooling book titles contain sensitive words (such as "Guerrilla Learning: How to Give Your Kids a Real Education With or Without School" by Grace Llewellyn, Amy Silver). Due to the Patriot Act, and that we are Muslim, you may want to ask to borrow these books from a homeschooling friend, instead of purchasing or borrowing from a library.
