Islamic History and Pride Month -- Daw'ah by Deed

Sometimes it is very hard to know what to do or say to people about Islam. They hear so many bad things about Islam on television and in movies. If they are much older then you, then chances are that the books they read in school weren't accurate about Islam either.

In the current state of things you may find yourself getting a little depressed. Often it seems impossible for one person, or even a group of people to do anything to straighten things out.

But, in reality that's so untrue! There's a lot that Muslim's can do, even if they are kids and teens!

On a sheet of lined paper think about and answer the following questions. You may even want to discuss some of these questions and answers within your class or family. When you have finished answering all the questions, and/or your discussion, staple this sheet to the top of your answer paper and hand in.

1. What does the word "empower" mean? Give it's definition in your own words.
2. List the synonyms for the word "empower"?
Often when people, even Muslims, think about solving a problem they come up with solutions that involve a large effort, much time and a lot of money. But many problems can be solved in the little things we do. And if we continue to do them, they build up to become one big thing.

"I'm a kid, what can I do?"

A lot! There are many things you can do for your school, your masjid, and in the town you live in!

3. It is just after Eid prayers. Muslims from all over the county and many towns have come. Many of them have brought plastic bags to put their shoes in during salah. Now these plastic bags are drifting through the masjid and blowing all over the grounds. You pick them up. How has that helped?
4 A television talk show host has just presented a program about Islam. The program is all about how Islam wants to kill and hurt everyone who is not Muslim. Later that day you see an old woman at the supermarket who is having trouble reaching bread and cans from the top shelf. You stop and help her do her shopping. How has this assistance helped erase the lies the television show planted in the minds of non-Muslims?
5 You are in a department store with your parents. The counter person who is serving you looks rather sad, and appears to be having a bad day. You smile and are very courteous, polite and treat this person as a human being. You may have been the only person all day to do so, and you have lifted the person's spirits. This simple act has planted the seed of the beauty of Islam. How?
