The Box


Find a box. Any box will do. Maybe your teacher brought one in, or your parent has one waiting for you. Go get it and set it in front of you.

What do you see?

Do you see four walls, a top and a bottom?

Now fill the box with balls, packing peanuts, wadded up newspaper, etc. Fill it to the top.

After you fill the box, stand up, take the box and turn it upside down.

All the contents in the box should now be on the floor.

Pick up everything that you just dumped on the floor and put it back into the box.

Done?

Great!

Read on.

By now you might be feeling a bit silly saying to yourself "What was the point of this? We already know about gravity and how to make a mess. We're kids after all."

Take a look a the box again. It once was empty and now it's full. The four walls and the floor of the box holding in the contents. Without those walls the contents would be all over the place, just as they were when you dumped it out. The box is a container, after all.

In many ways our mind is a container. What we learn during our day, our experiences and thoughts are all held there. Your mind is not a box. Alhumdillillah, it is so much more. .

Often times people get into a rut. They place imaginary boundaries around their thought processes and think that there is only one way to get things done, one way to solve a problem, and only one answer to a problem.
